  • Hapag-Lloyd and SLPA Reaffirm Commitment to Strengthening Sri Lanka’s Maritime Hub Positioning

Global container shipping line Hapag-Lloyd has reaffirmed its commitment to elevating operational standards and service quality at the Port of Colombo, following high-level discussions with the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA). The engagement focused on identifying growth opportunities in cargo-handling capacity, sustainable shipping practices, and improved connectivity across South Asian shipping corridors.

Both parties emphasised the strategic importance of strengthening partnerships to cement Sri Lanka’s role as a key maritime hub in the region. With Colombo now ranked 20th globally in container port throughput, collaborative engagements with major shipping lines such as Hapag-Lloyd are essential for maintaining competitive berth productivity, expanding feeder network coverage, and attracting higher-value transshipment volumes as regional trade patterns continue to evolve.
