EDB Targets Strategic Expansion of Sri Lanka’s High-Purity Graphite Industry

 As global supply chains shift toward renewable energy and electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing, the Export Development Board (EDB) announced a structured initiative to scale Sri Lanka’s vein graphite exports. Sri Lanka is renowned for possessing high-purity natural vein graphite, a critical raw material for lithium-ion battery anodes and energy storage components.

The EDB is facilitating value-addition partnerships to move away from raw mineral exports toward processed, battery-grade graphite materials. For specialized logistics operators, handling refined minerals requires dedicated bulk-handling facilities, moisture-controlled bonded storage, and certified hazardous-goods transport protocols aligned with international battery supply chains.
