Maersk Deploys $1,000 Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) on Inbound East Asia Cargo

The inbound cost pressures on Sri Lanka’s supply chains are intensifying as global carriers formalize their mid-year tariff adjustments. Effective today, June 17, 2026, ocean liner Maersk has officially implemented a blanket Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) of $1,000 per container on all container types moving into Sri Lanka. This newly enforced surcharge directly hits cargo originating from primary manufacturing gateways including China, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Vietnam.

For industrial warehouse managers and domestic distributors, this additional charge alters the baseline cost structure for imported machinery, raw materials, and retail goods. Because these surcharges are implemented at short notice based on global capacity strains, supply chain controllers must immediately integrate the updated tariffs into their landed cost analytics to avoid unexpected end-of-month margin erasures.
