Gemini Cooperation Shifts Service Windows to SAGT Amid Port Congestion

Operational agility is being put to the test at the Port of Colombo. Due to heavy regional cargo diversions and mounting berth congestion across South Asian hubs, the Gemini Cooperation (the global alliance between Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd) has shifted its terminal calls for the South India-Europe service. Both eastbound and westbound vessel calls have been reassigned from the Colombo West International Terminal (CWIT) to the South Asia Gateway Terminal (SAGT) to stabilize schedule integrity.

For local logistics coordinators, this terminal pivot highlights the fluid nature of current port operations. Fixed-day berthing windows are facing severe pressure as vessels absorb delays from adjacent regional lanes. To mitigate delays, 3PL providers and drayage operators must maintain real-time tracking links with SAGT and adjust container drop-off/pick-up slots dynamically.
