 In a major diplomatic development in Colombo, the EU Delegation to Sri Lanka and AHK Sri Lanka hosted a high-level business roundtable under the EU’s Global Gateway initiative. The focus of the summit was clear: strengthening Sri Lanka’s strategic position as a competitive, highly transparent regional maritime and logistics hub.

As geopolitical anxiety regarding Indian Ocean trade routes climbs, European partners are looking to support infrastructure developments that improve transparency and digitalization. For local port operators and freight forwarders, this alignment opens the door for increased foreign direct investment in clean-energy bunkering, automated terminal operations, and cybersecurity measures designed to protect international supply lines from digital disruptions.
