Colombo’s 15 Million TEU Goal: The 2026 Infrastructure Horizon
The Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) has projected that with the completion of the East Container Terminal (ECT) and Colombo West International Terminal (CWIT), capacity will nearly double to 15 million TEUs by the end of 2026. However, CBSL warns that geography alone is no longer enough to compete.
This is a call for “Smart Warehouses” that can communicate with port terminals. As capacity doubles, our inland “Modern Canvas” must use digitalization and automation to ensure that speed is maintained. Multimodal connectivity remains essential to positioning Colombo as the preferred gateway in South Asia.
