  • Rescue Supplies: India Sends 38,000 MT of Petroleum to Sri Lanka

Following a high-level conversation between President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a “rescue shipment” of 38,000 MT of petroleum arrived in Colombo today. The shipment, consisting of 20,000 MT of diesel and 18,000 MT of petrol, was dispatched by Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL) after traditional suppliers invoked force majeure due to the Middle East conflict.

This influx of fuel is a vital lifeline for the logistics sector, which has been struggling with transport delays and warehouse bottlenecks. The “Indian Energy Bridge” is currently the most significant factor preventing a total standstill in the movement of export containers from factories to the Port of Colombo.
