Exceptional Instability: Yusen Logistics Issues Fresh Middle East Warning
In a major customer advisory issued today, Yusen Logistics highlighted that geopolitical tensions in the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea have “intensified considerably.” The effective closure of critical waterways is no longer a temporary delay but a “period of exceptional instability” for global supply chains. Carriers are now systematically ceasing new bookings and shifting to long-term rerouting around the Cape of Good Hope.
For Sri Lankan traders, this means the “Reliability Tax” is becoming a permanent line item. With transits now consistently 2–3 weeks longer, the pressure on “Empty Container” availability in Colombo is reaching a critical point. Logistics providers must now move beyond reactive tracking and toward “Risk Mitigation Support,” helping clients find alternative air-sea hubs to bypass the maritime chokepoints.
