  • EDB Launches Priority Fuel Program to Shield 4,500 Exporters

Recognizing the export sector as the nation’s top economic priority, the Export Development Board (EDB) has launched a fast-track fuel supply program this week. EDB Chairman Mangala Wijesinghe announced that the initiative aims to support over 4,500 exporters across the apparel, tea, and spice industries. The program ensures that transport fleets moving export cargo receive priority fuel allocations at designated stations, shielding the sector from the domestic fuel shortages triggered by the Middle East crisis.

This government-backed initiative is a “frontline national task” designed to maintain Sri Lanka’s competitiveness on the global stage. By ensuring that the “Export Green Channel” remains open, the EDB is preventing total logistics paralysis. Logistics and warehousing firms are being urged to register their vehicle data immediately via the EDB portal to benefit from this uninterrupted supply.
