  • Ceylon Chamber Proposes 5-Point Plan to Protect Export Economy

To safeguard Sri Lanka’s economic stability amid rising global uncertainty, the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce officially proposed five urgent measures today. The Chamber is calling on the government to identify and prioritize “Essential Services” and “Export Sectors” for dedicated fuel and foreign exchange allocation.

A standout proposal includes allowing licensed local bunkering firms to independently procure fuel for export-oriented industries on a foreign currency basis. This would effectively decouple the logistics of our 4,500+ exporters from the domestic fuel supply, ensuring that the “engines of the economy” keep running even if the regional energy crisis deepens. This proactive policy shift is seen as vital for maintaining Sri Lanka’s reputation as a reliable global trading partner.
