Sri Lanka’s Export Milestones Achieved in December 2024
In December 2024, Sri Lanka’s merchandise exports amounted to $1,042.5 million, reflecting a 4.06% growth compared to the same month in 2023, according to provisional data from Sri Lanka Customs. This increase was primarily driven by higher earnings from key sectors such as apparel and textiles, tea, rubber-based products, coconut-based products, spices and concentrates, as well as food and beverages. These sectors collectively contributed to the steady growth in merchandise exports for the month.
Additionally, services exports for December 2024 were estimated at $322.92 million, showing a remarkable 29.96% increase over the corresponding period in 2023. This substantial growth in services exports further complemented the overall export performance of the country.
As a result, Sri Lanka’s total exports, combining merchandise and services, reached $1,365.42 million in December 2024. This represents a moderate but notable increase of 9.21% compared to the same period in the previous year, highlighting the steady progress in the nation’s export sector.
