  • SLPA seeks private investors for two logistics centres

The Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) is looking for investors to build a second logistics center at Colombo Port next year, with plans for a third center thereafter. Chairman Sirimevan Ranasinghe revealed these plans at the Voyage Sri Lanka 2024 seminar, announcing the intention to invite investors for the Bloemandhal Center in early 2025. The Bloemandhal Center, awarded to China’s CM Ports and Sri Lanka’s Access Group, will be a multistory warehouse covering 42,000 square feet on 5.5 acres in the South Harbour area.

The project will be a public-private partnership lasting 35 years, with an initial investment of $175 million for the first phase, which is part of a total $392 million logistics center. This logistics center aims to meet the growing demand for container facilities and will play a key role in enhancing Colombo Port’s capabilities.

Additionally, the SLPA is planning a third logistics center at the West Breakwater common area, set to be developed once the East container terminal yard is completed. This expansion will further support the port’s increasing traffic and logistics needs.
