  • Port of Colombo welcomes EVER ARM milestone.

On September 5, 2024, the Port of Colombo welcomed the container vessel EVER ARM at the Colombo East Container Terminal (CECT), marking a significant milestone for South Asia’s busiest port. The vessel, part of Evergreen’s fleet, is on the China-Europe-Mediterranean (CEM) route and is designed to carry up to 24,000 TEUs. With a length of 400 meters and a beam of 60 meters, EVER ARM is capable of handling vast amounts of cargo efficiently, highlighting Colombo’s growing capacity to handle ultra-large container vessels.

The ship, built in 2022 by Samsung Heavy Industries, has a gross tonnage of 235,579 and a deadweight capacity of 241,960 metric tonnes. EVER ARM docked at CECT, where the port’s advanced 55-meter-high ship-to-shore cranes ensured smooth operations. The vessel departed from Rotterdam Maasvlakte and is now on its way to Kaohsiung, Taiwan, marking another achievement for the terminal.

This port call underscores the excellence of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority and the Port of Colombo, reflecting the advanced technology and infrastructure at the CECT. It reinforces Colombo’s strategic significance as a key player in global maritime logistics and affirms its ability to handle the latest generation of ultra-large container vessels.
