Colombo Port sees strong growth in 2024.
In 2024, the Port of Colombo saw a significant milestone, handling 1,541,034 TEUs, marking a 16% year-on-year growth. South Asia Gateway Terminals (SAGT) processed 1,281,642 TEUs, reflecting a 10.4% increase compared to the same period in 2023. On the other hand, the Colombo International Container Terminals (CICT) reported a 5% rise, reaching 2,200,956 TEUs.
The overall performance of Colombo Port for 2024 showed a cumulative growth of 9.6%, totaling 5,023,632 TEUs, up from 4,584,843 TEUs in 2023. This achievement highlights the port’s continuing growth and dominance in the region.
If the upward trend continues, Colombo is expected to surpass its previous records, further solidifying its position as a major player in the South Asian maritime industry. This growth reflects the port’s strategic importance and its capacity to handle increasing global shipping demands.
