Sri Lanka exports grow in August 2024
Sri Lanka’s merchandise exports in August 2024 amounted to US$ 1,165.4 million, reflecting a 4.18% increase compared to the same month in 2023. This growth was primarily driven by higher earnings from key sectors including Apparel & Textiles, Tea, Rubber-based products, Coconut-based products, and Spices & Concentrates. Notably, Apparel & Textiles exports exceeded the US$ 500 million mark for the first time in two years.
In addition, the export performance showed a 3.1% increase compared to July 2024. Services exports also contributed positively, with an estimated value of US$ 318.77 million in August 2024, marking a 6.49% increase from August 2023.
As a result, the total value of Sri Lanka’s exports, including both merchandise and services, reached US$ 1,483.13 million in August 2024, representing a 4.67% increase compared to the same period in 2023.
