On July 4, 2024, the United Nations Sustainable Stock Exchanges (UN SSE) initiative, in collaboration with the London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG), the IFRS Foundation, and other sustainability leaders, marked the first anniversary of the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB). This milestone celebration recognized the ISSB’s progress in developing global standards for sustainability-related disclosures, highlighting its role in improving corporate transparency and helping investors make informed decisions based on sustainability factors.
On July 24, 2024, the UN SSE Initiative, together with the International Finance Corporation (IFC), hosted a roundtable focus group on gender equality metrics. This online event brought together a diverse group of experts, including standard-setting bodies, securities market regulators, data providers, international organizations, exchanges, and civil society groups. The focus was on creating better frameworks for measuring gender equality in the business world, aiming to improve transparency and accountability in corporate gender practices.
Additionally, on July 25, 2024, the UN SSE launched a webinar to kick off the SSE Advisory Group on Transition Plans, a crucial step in aligning businesses with net zero emissions targets. Transition plans are essential for guiding companies in their shift to sustainable practices. Following this, on July 30, 2024, another webinar introduced the SSE Advisory Group on SMEs and Sustainability, addressing the unique challenges faced by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in responding to sustainability regulations due to limited resources and expertise. These initiatives emphasize the growing importance of sustainability across all business sizes and sectors.
