  • Sri Lanka and Maersk: Deepening Ties at the Davos Summit

In a major diplomatic move, Sri Lankan Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya met with Robert M. Uggla, Chairman of A.P. Moller–Maersk, during the World Economic Forum in Davos this week. The meeting centered on a single, powerful goal: “Policy Certainty.” As Maersk looks to further integrate its global network, Sri Lanka is being positioned as a primary site for Maersk’s regional expansion, specifically within the Port of Colombo’s developing infrastructure.

This high-level dialogue signals that the “Towering Tree” of Sri Lankan maritime policy is successfully attracting the world’s largest carriers. Discussions covered private-sector alignment and the potential for Maersk to leverage Colombo as a “Green Hub,” utilizing the port’s upcoming renewable energy integration to lower the carbon footprint of its Asia-Europe lanes. For the local logistics community, this partnership promises not only increased volumes but also a transfer of global best practices in terminal management and digital logistics.
