Duty-Free Horizons: Australia Scraps All Tariffs on Indian Exports Today
The “Towering Tree” of Indo-Pacific trade has grown significantly stronger today, January 1, 2026. Following the third anniversary of the India-Australia Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (ECTA), Australia has officially removed all remaining tariffs on Indian exports. This milestone marks a total liberalization of trade between the two nations, providing duty-free access for over 92% of Indian tariff lines, including critical labor-intensive sectors such as textiles, leather, jewelry, and engineering goods.
For the logistics industry, this agreement is more than a cost-saving measure; it is a catalyst for new trade lanes. In 2025, bilateral trade already surged to $24.1 billion, and today’s full tariff removal is expected to accelerate this toward the $50 billion target by 2030. Logistics providers should anticipate a sharp rise in “LCL” (Less than Container Load) shipments from Indian MSMEs who can now compete on price in the Australian market. This shift also encourages a “South-South” supply chain orientation, reducing the regional reliance on traditional Western consumer markets that are currently grappling with the “Year of Tariff Consequences.”
