  • JNPA to Launch India’s First Automated Mooring System at GTI Terminal

The Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) announced plans to launch India’s first Automated Mooring System (AMS) at its Gateway Terminals India (GTI) facility. The AMS technology uses a vacuum-based system to automatically secure large vessels to the berth, reducing the need for manual rope handling. This upgrade is aimed at significantly improving vessel turnaround times, enhancing port safety, and mitigating weather-related delays.

This major technological investment is part of JNPA’s strategy to become a premier smart port in the region. By speeding up the berthing process, the AMS directly addresses operational bottlenecks, allowing the port to handle a greater volume of cargo more efficiently. This will cement its position as a critical trade gateway for the Indian subcontinent.

The move is consistent with the global trend of port digitalization and automation, which is seen as essential for future resilience and competitive advantage. For carriers and shippers using JNPA, the AMS promises more reliable schedules and reduced operational risk, showcasing India’s commitment to modernizing its logistics infrastructure.
