Mexico ending deforestation-linked avocado exports by 2026.
The Mexican avocado industry has committed to ending exports linked to deforestation by 2026 to address environmental damage and illegal land clearing. The strategy includes a certification system where orchards deforested between 2018 and 2024 must undergo restoration to qualify for export, while any land cleared from 2025 onwards will be permanently banned. This initiative aims to protect Mexico’s $4 billion export economy, primarily serving the U.S. market, while aligning with broader national goals for sustainable produce exports by 2030.
