  • BYD’s Pakistan Expansion Signals EV Shift in South Asia Supply Chain

Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer BYD announced a major strategic expansion, confirming plans to assemble EVs and plug-in hybrid pickups in Pakistan starting in mid-2026. Collaborating with a local partner, the new assembly plant in Karachi will serve the burgeoning South Asian market, which is experiencing rapid EV adoption fueled by government incentives and limited charging infrastructure.

This investment is fundamentally reshaping the automotive supply chain in South Asia. Instead of importing fully built vehicles, the focus will shift to importing parts and establishing local assembly operations. This nearshoring of manufacturing creates significant opportunities for regional logistics and specialized warehousing to manage the complex flow of components and finished vehicles.

The move by BYD aligns with a global trend of establishing regional production hubs to reduce delivery times and mitigate risks from international shipping volatility. For the logistics sector, this requires specialized services, including dedicated automotive logistics and expertise in handling battery components, which are crucial for the evolving EV ecosystem.
